Students for the Postgraduate Diploma in Theology and Social Justice study six modules. Students choose three core and three elective modules. The course is taught over two semesters, mid September to end of November and late January to mid April.
Three core modules form the basis of all three postgraduate awards:
- Theologies for the Climate Crisis
- Power and Empowerment
- Theological Ideas of Home/lessness and Race.
Students taking the Diploma and Masters routes also choose three elective modules from a range of options, including:
- Economic Justice and Theological Reflection
- Politics and Mysticism
- Critical Social Analysis for Theologians
- Gender and Sexuality Justice.
Students who have successfully completed the postgraduate diploma course may exit with an award of Postgraduate Diploma or progress immediately without collecting the award to the Masters. Students who exit with a postgraduate diploma also have the option to rescind it and return within five years to pursue the Masters course.
Entry requirements are as for the M.Phil. in Theology and Social Justice.
Admission to this course is at graduate level. Applicants will normally hold a good honours degree (minimum 2.1) in theology from a recognised university.
Applicants who have a primary degree in other disciplines will be considered.
Exceptional cases, where applicants do not fully meet the above criteria, but make a reasonable case for admissions otherwise, will be considered by the Dean of Graduate Studies.
The course is delivered full-time over one year, mid September to end of November and late January to mid April., or part-time over two years.
Lectures will normally be held on Tuesday and Wednesday after 4 pm. Some elective modules may be held during other week days.
