Course Overview
The Postgraduate Diploma programme runs over an 18-month period. The course provides a wide background of focused education and training in clinical dental technology techniques to enable Clinical Dental Technicians to work clinically to the highest national and international standards both safely and independently. A comprehensive education in the theoretical and clinical principles of treatment of edentulous and partially dentate patients is provided.
The course leads to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology (P.Grad.Dip. in Clinical Dental Technology).
Is This Course For Me?
This course is designed for students with a degree in Dental Technology and at least three years of professional experience in a dental laboratory who wish to expand their skillset in clinical dental technology.
Career Opportunities
This programme has been designed to enable postgraduate dental technicians working in general dental services, the community and hospital dental services, to safely and effectively provide intraoral prostheses for patients to the highest international standards.
Course Structure
The course will extend over 18 months and consist of formal didactic components, supervised clinical practice, directed private study, written assignments, oral presentations and formative and summative assessments. Candidates for the course have to attend three days per week (Tuesday-Thursday).
Course Content
The course is divided into eight modules, each having specific aims and learning outcomes. There are elements of direct contact teaching, self-directed learning, clinical practice, clinical competence and associated assignments for each module.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must possess a dental technology degree. Entry to training in Clinical Dental Technology would normally follow a minimum of a three year period of general professional training. Applicants will also need to include an additional 300-word statement indicating why they wish to undertake the course.
For applicants whose first language is not English, the required proficiency for admission to this course is an IELTS (academic version) score of 7, with no individual band below 7.
Applicants must have evidence of satisfactory protection against Hepatitis B. New regulations may require testing for Hepatitis C for new entrants to the HSE in the future.
