Round Table: 'Chicana and Latin American Perspectives'

Participants:

Dr Stephanie Dennison (University of Leeds)
Reader in Brazilian Studies at the University of Leeds. She is co-author of two monographs on Brazilian cinema. She also co-edited Remapping World Cinema: Identity, Culture and Politics on Film, 2006 and Latin American Cinema: Essays on Modernity, Gender and National Identity, 2005. She was co-editor of cinema journal New Cinemas 2010-11. Her edited book Contemporary Hispanic Cinema: Interrogating the Transnational in Spanish and Latin American Film is forthcoming in 2013.

Professor Nuala Finnegan (University College Cork)
Head of the Department of Hispanic Studies and Director of the Centre for Mexican Studies at University College Cork, Ireland. She researches in the area of contemporary Mexican culture including literature and film. Recent publications include The Boom Femenino in Mexico: Reading Contemporary Women's Writing (2010) with Jane Lavery and Ambivalence, Modernity, Power: Women and Writing in Mexico since 1980 (2007).

Dr Catherine Leen (National University of Ireland, Maynooth)
Lecturer in the Department of Spanish at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, Ireland. Her teaching and research interests centre on Mexican and Chicana/o literature and cinema and Argentine and Paraguayan cultures. In 2008, she received a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research at the Chicana/o Studies Centre at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has published widely on Chicana/o writers, and her current research projects include an edited volume entitled International Perspectives on Chicana/o Culture: “This World is My Place,” to be published in 2013, and a monograph entitled Latina/o Filmmakers and Mexico.

Dr María Dolores Álvarez Morales (Journalist / Researcher)
A journalist and until 2012 the director General of News Agency EFE. She has been an invited lecturer at several universities in the United States, Latin America, and Spain. A version of her Ph.D. thesis obtained the Victoria Kent Research Prize awarded by the University of Málaga. Author of De la sombra a la luz. Mujer y poder en los medios.

Dr Trinidad Núñez Domínguez (University of Sevilla)
A lecturer in the Department of Social Psychology and Academic Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Communication at the University of Sevilla. She has participated in some twelve national and international research projects related to the media and gender. She is coordinator of the book Directoras de cine español. Ayer, hoy y mañana, mostrando talentos.

Dr Teresa Vera Balanza (University of Málaga)
A lecturer in Theory of Communication in the Department of Journalism. Researcher in media and gender for over a decade. Vice-Dean of Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Media and Communication at the University of Málaga. She is Secretary of the Research Seminar on Interdisciplinary Women's Studies (SEIM/University of Málaga) and coordinator of the book Directoras de cine español. Ayer, hoy y mañana, mostrando talentos.
