Next generation sequencing of ancient genomes:
Ancient DNA (aDNA) research allows changes in the genomes of organisms to be studied over archaeological time-scales. Using
next generation sequencing (NGS) we are re-sequencing the mitochondrial and the nuclear genome of both ancient Irish humans and multiple domesticate species (Cow, Sheep and Goat).
The sequencing of ancient Irish genomes will provide completely novel information about the peopling, migrations, selection pressures and population structure of Ireland's prehistory. Results from the analysis of several ancient animal genomes will have the ability to inform on the effects of domestication on these species.
