Travel Bursary Report April 2024 - Catherine Cawley
Catherine Cawley is a PhD student at Trinity Business School.
I am grateful for the support of Trinity Research in Social Sciences (TRiSS) through their Travel Bursary. With this funding I was able to present my paper co-authored with Dr. Mairead Brady (doctoral supervisor), titled, “The Criticality of Organisational Readiness of Business Schools for Artificial Intelligence: The Time is Now” to the participants of the 84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM), which was held in Chicago, IL, USA from 9 – 13 August 2024. My research contributes a framework to study the AI readiness of business schools, particularly in teaching and learning. This is a critical organisational perspective given both the benefits and risks posed by rapidly evolving technology such as AI.
I was also able to expand my network which supports my data collection and further development of my dissertation. I submitted a second (working) paper which was reviewed as part of the AOM Management Education & Development (MED) Division’s Writers Workshop that gave me useful feedback for paper development.
Attending this conference was also beneficial for my professional growth as I co-organised a well-received Professional Development Workshop (PDW) on “Amplifying the Practitioner Voice in Management Education” and co-facilitated the PDW on “Teaching with Technology: Unraveling Emerging AI Practices in the Classroom” which was shortlisted for a best PDW award of the MED Division.
Finally, I attended the MED Division membership meeting where I formally took on the Practitioner Liaison role in the executive team following my nomination last year as Practitioner Liaison-Elect. I was also incredibly happy to receive a Service Award for my contributions to the MED Division over the last year at this meeting.
