Brief description of the event:

Thanks to the 2023/24 Trinity Research in Social Sciences (TRiSS) Postgraduate Research Fellowships, I was able to present my paper during the poster session at the 1st Journal of International Economics Summer School. The event was hosted by the Department of Economics at the University of Crete from June 14 to June 16, 2023.
This was a perfect venue to showcase my research work in front of key experts in the field. The feedback I received contributed substantially to improving my paper. Moreover, through the lectures from top academics over the three days, I gained significant knowledge that fostered my PhD progression.

Brief description of the research project for which grant was awarded:

In this research project I study whether the advent of financial globalisation has contributed to increasing wealth inequality in the United States, France, and the United Kingdom.
In a nutshell, the paper finds that an increase in the proxy for financial globalization is associated with a significant positive change in the wealth share of the top 1% (the rich) and the top 10% (upper middle-class). This is explained by the high concentration of ownership of portfolio equities and financial derivatives, the accumulation and reinvestment of new cross-border financial wealth over time, and differentials in recovery timings during financial crises.

Brief description of the outcome of the research project:

As a rewarding end to this project, my paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Macroeconomics and is available (open access) here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jmacro.2024.103618
TRiSS funding is acknowledged and played a relevant role in this publication outcome. I once more extend my thanks to the TRiSS Research Fellowship Committee for their invaluable financial support for my research by granting me this funding.
