In Trinity’s first dedicated award for research, following the publication of the Living Research Excellence Strategy and Research Charter in 2019, the Office of the Dean of Research announced the recipients of the Research Excellence Awards.

Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub, is awarded in the category ‘Stand up for Research’, acknowledging her work in advocating and fighting for Arts and Humanities research at both national, European and international level.

Professor Ohlmeyer commented on receipt of the prestigious award:

I’m thrilled to be included in the Research Excellence Awards this year, and from my perspective it is a reflection, among the other recipients, of the excellence of Arts and Humanities research which we have been working hard to convey. This award has come at a particularly difficult moment for a lot of colleagues and students who face uncertainty amidst the chaos of Covid-19, and now more than ever is a time to ‘stand up for research.’.

Trinity’s Arts and Humanities Schools are awarded in five out of eight of the categories for the Awards. The Trinity Long Room Hub would like to congratulate members of our partner schools who received the following awards:

  • Cherish academic freedom, diversity of scholarship, and pursuit of truth
    • Roja Fazaeli, School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies
  • Position research at the heart of Trinity
    • Christine Casey, School of Histories and Humanities
  • Engage profoundly with our publics
    • Ruth Brennan, School of Histories and Humanities. Joseph Roche, School of Education
  • Dean of Research award
    • David O’Shaughnessy, School of English

We would also like to congratulate colleagues across a range of disciplines who are acknowledged for their research excellence, including friends from Adapt, the Science Gallery, the School of Biochemistry and Immunology and the School of Engineering.

The Office of the Dean of Research outlined that a ceremony planned for 2 April to announce the awards could not proceed due to the current Covid-19 pandemic but that over the coming weeks, highlights of each of the award recipients’ work will be shared on the website ResearchMatters.

This week Christine Casey’s work as part of the CraftValue project is highlighted here.
