Trinity College Dublin has been ranked 14th in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact rankings out of 766 institutions. This is a significant increase on the 2019 rankings when the university was placed 28th out of 467 universities.
The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings seek to assess the contribution of universities beyond research and teaching, against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Trinity’s top three SDGs were Gender Equality (3rd in the World); Sustainable Cities and Communities (5th in the World); and Reduced Inequalities (6th in the World).
The Trinity Long Room Hub has been working with its Early Career Researchers to devise creative ways of showing how their research connects with the UN’s SDGs. In 2019, 40 early career researchers designed posters to show case what impact their research is having on realising the goals set out by the UN including areas from gender quality, to inequality, sustainability, and quality education. The Innovation & Impact Virtual Mini Summit was hosted by the Times Higher Education (THE) online, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Trinity is ranked 1st overall in Ireland for the Impact Rankings, with other institutes in Ireland also performing strongly, including UCC and the RCSI. Some of Trinity's international partner instiutes such as The University of São Paulo (USP) was the highest ranking University in South America and also ranked in 14th in the world.
