A lecture by Caitlin White (School of Education) and Lorraine McEvoy (TCD) as part of the Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series.
Caitlin White is a Research Fellow in the School of Education at Trinity College Dublin. She holds a PhD in public history from Trinity College Dublin, where she worked with Dr Anne Dolan on memory, monuments, and commemoration in the Irish Free State. As a public historian her work combines rigorous academic research with creative and innovative methods to engage various communities in history. She has presented at conferences nationally and internationally on memory, commemoration, and Irish history. Her work in public history has involved podcasts (History Ireland Hedge School), exhibitions (Society & State, Clerys: The Archives), radio shows (Talking History), documentaries (The Silent Civil War), and popular history writing (History Ireland). Her most recent publication, a book chapter in Space in Public History (Routledge, 2024), explored the politics of space in Dublin 1922-39. Her research interests are social history, public history, engagement, politics and democracy, education, and modern Irish history.
Lorraine McEvoy recently completed a PhD in History at Trinity College Dublin where her research was funded by Trinity’s Ussher Fellowship and the Irish Research Council. She also holds a BA in History and English Literature and an MPhil in International History from Trinity. Her PhD research examined recuperative holidays for children in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War and is based on archival research in Britain, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. She is a member of the History Team at the Museum of Childhood Ireland.
The Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series will take place at 2.30p.m. on Wednesday in the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts & Humanities Research Institute. It provides a forum for discussion and dissemination of new ideas, perspectives, and research on Irish history, Irish Studies and cognate disciplines. All are welcome.
