'‘Institutions of Empire?: Assessing the Queen’s Colleges and British Imperial Service, c. 1850-1885'

A lecture by Dr Jay Rozman (UCC) as part of the Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series.

Dr Jay Roszman is a lecturer of nineteenth century Irish and British History at UCC, where he was appointed in 2018. His first book, Outrage in the Age of Reform: Irish Agrarian Violence, Imperial Insecurity, and British Governing Policy 1830-1845 came out with Cambridge in 2022. Since then, he has primarily been focused on themes relating to Ireland and Empire, including an article with English Historical Review on O’Connell, Irish Nationalism and British Imperial wars in the 1830s-1840s (2025), and a project on the Queen’s Colleges and the British Empire.

The Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series will take place at 2.30p.m. on Wednesday in the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts & Humanities Research Institute. It provides a forum for discussion and dissemination of new ideas, perspectives, and research on Irish history, Irish Studies and cognate disciplines. All are welcome.
