The Kemble Lecture 2024 - Mundane Matters: Early English Manuscripts, 700-1200, and the Aesthetics of the Ordinary
The Kemble Lecture 2024 will be given by Prof Elaine Treharne (Stanford University) and is organised by the School of English.
Since 2005 the School of English has sponsored the annual Kemble lecture, a public lecture on any aspect of Old English language, literature, history or culture, given by a distinguished scholar of early medieval studies. In 2024 we are delighted to welcome Prof. Elaine Treharne, specialist in manuscript studies, archives, information technologies, and early British literature. Her many publications include Perceptions of Medieval Manuscripts: The Phenomenal Book with OUP in 2021; A Very Short Introduction to Medieval Literature (OUP, 2015); Living Through Conquest: The Politics of Early English (OUP, 2012); and the Cambridge Companion to British Medieval Manuscripts, co-edited with Dr Orietta Da Rold for Cambridge University Press in 2020.
This is a hybrid lecture. You are welcome to attend in person. To join the lecture via zoom you will need to register beforehand here.
