“Il mondo deve sapere”: Reading Michela Murgia

Date: 04 Oct - 04 Oct 2024
Time: 11:00 - 16:00
Venue:

An online conference on author and activist Michela Murgia.

Throughout her career, Italian author and activist Michela Murgia (1972-2023) adopted a variety of cultural forms for communicating her experiences and ideas and exploring diverse political and social concerns. In all her endeavours, she lent attention to the exclusion of certain groups, including but not limited to women, from the mechanisms of power and the production of discourse. As yet, the body of literature which Murgia published during her lifetime, in addition to her many other cultural and political activities, has received relatively little critical attention. Following her premature death at the age of 51 in 2023, this conference will open a critical conversation around Michela Murgia’s legacy. Papers will cover Murgia's writings on politics, identity, theology, and other themes, with a view to increasing the visibility of her work and developing critical strategies for approaching her contribution to the contemporary Italian cultural landscape.
