H Blocks: the brutalism of prison architecture and its historical affect

A lecture by Prof Louise Purbrick (Royal College of Art) as part of The Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series.

About the speaker:
Dr Louise Purbrick is Tutor in the History of Design at the Royal College of Art. She is a writer and activist whose work is devoted to interpreting the landscapes of incarceration, extractivism, exploitation and migration as well as understanding the material culture of everyday life. She is author of H Blocks: an Architecture of the Conflict in and about Northern Ireland, Bloomsbury Academic, 2023. She is part of the Traces of Nitrate www.tracesofnitrate.org research collective.

The Modern and Contemporary Irish History Seminar Series will take place at 2.30p.m. on Wednesday in the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts & Humanities Research Institute. It provides a forum for discussion and dissemination of new ideas, perspectives, and research on Irish history, Irish Studies and cognate disciplines. All are welcome. We particularly welcome members of the postgraduate community.
