The three Rs (re-use, recycle and reconstitution of waste), are explicitly associated with achieving sustainability in the concrete construction sector and governments the world over are directing their construction industries towards this challenging goal. The extent of the success of this will finally depend on how a waste type is recycled and also how this may affect concrete and mortar performance, as an architectural, building and structural/road pavement construction material.
This seminar will address the potential for use of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in concrete and mortar, arising from construction, demolition and excavation waste (CDEW), in place of natural crushed-rock and gravel aggregates (NA). The seminar will begin with the production and properties of RCA, their effects on the performance during their life span, of both the structural/road pavement concrete and building mortar. The seminar will end discussing how sustainable concrete construction that is durable and sustainable may be achieved using RCA.

Who should attend?Anyone who works with concrete should have an interest in the potential future extensive use of RCA in sustainable concrete and mortar. This seminar should be attended by Demolition Companies, Recycled Aggregate Producers, Ready-mixed Concrete and Mortar Producers, Precast Concrete Manufacturers, Architects, Design Engineers, Contractors, Government Departments, Researchers, and Academics.
Speaker:The seminar will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Ravindra K Dhir OBE of the University of Dundee, an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin and Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Concrete Technology. Ravindra is an internationally acclaimed, life-time researcher and teacher in the field of concrete science, technology and construction, in particular the 3Rs and sustainable concrete construction. Ravindra published his first paper on the subject of RCA in 1998 and since then he has published on the subject 34 papers, 3 books and several technical reports for industry and government departments. He has worked very closely with them in the UK and other countries, especially UAE, India, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa.
