Figure 1: Results of a 24 hours noise measurements (LA10-24hs) conducted in the current Clonee–North of Kells section of the M3 road. The measurements were carried out at 10m from the edge of the near carriage way following the UK 1975 “best practice”. Comparison with values reported by the Environmental Impact Report (NES)[1], obtained at a nearby site.
Figures (2 to 4): Computational model of the noise problem and possible solution for a site in the current Clonee–North of Kells section of the M3 road (same site of Fig.1). The model consider the different complex impedance of every surface in the problem.
In Figure 1, we can see the high levels of noise produced by the road traffic, particularly in the night period (22:00 to 1:00). This produces a great annoyance in the population of the area. Therefore, abatement measures are required.
