Research Projects

This research examines the experiences of mentors working with individuals with intellectual disabilities in businesses across the Republic of Ireland. These employees are graduates of a post-secondary program for people with intellectual disabilities, engaging in internships with business partners after completing a Level 5 Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) programme. Utilising focus groups, and an online survey, the study analyses three critical aspects of employment integration: entry pathways into mentoring, training for mentors, and the working relationships between mentors and employees with intellectual disabilities. The findings contribute to understanding how mentoring can support meaningful employment and foster workplace inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This research is currently being prepared for publication in an academic paper.
