TCPID at Inclusion in Action Conference in UCC December 2024
TCPID were well represented at the Inclusion in Action Conference in UCC, December 4th and 5th. Organised by id+ Project University College Cork (UCC), in association with joinIN Inclusive Higher Education Network, this European State of the Art (ESOTA) Conference was titled; Inclusion in Action: Creative and Critical Insights from Programmes for Students with Intellectual Disability in Higher Education.
With participants from Ireland, Europe and the USA, the conference was a vibrant and engaging opportunity to reflect on what is happening in the field of inclusive education, with a particular focus on how inclusive education is experienced by students, educators and university professionals and translated into practice in teaching, learning and other university activities.
Emma McGrath and Gillian Cronin, TCPID graduates presented ‘Learner Advocates: Co-designing Disability Awareness in Higher Education’. Our Teaching and Learning Assistant Angela Mazzocco presented on her groundbreaking work on the ASIAP programme, titled ‘Empowering Inclusion: the Role and Value of Teaching and Learning Support in IPSE”. Professor Michael Shevlin conducted a workshop with colleagues from the USA and Austria entitled ‘JoinIn Symposium: Next steps for a successful future’.
In addition to the presentations, our Senior Occupational Therapist Emer Murphy, along with graduates Emma McGrath, Gillian Cronin, Cliodhna O Rourke and Shannon Brooker presented a poster developed with two of their fellow graduates Dale O Neill and Saoirse Keogh. The poster summarised the work that the poster project team did on their Co-Production Project where they worked together to develop accessible information about consent and accessible consent forms for students with Intellectual Disabilities. The project was funded by Trinity Inc.
