What is the Timothy Dimka Scholarship Programme?
The Timothy Dimka scholarship is sponsored by our TCPID Business Partner Smurfit Westrock.
Timothy Dimka was a student of the Certificate in Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice from September 2020 until he very sadly passed away in September 2021. He successfully passed the first year of the course after completing the full academic year remotely during the Covid pandemic. Timothy attended orientation for 2nd year on campus in September 2021 with the rest of his class and got to meet all his classmates and the TCPID team in person for the very first time. He very sadly passed away unexpectedly a few days later, just before the new academic year started. We all feel blessed that we got to meet with him and chat to him on orientation day.
Timothy was a wonderful young man who had such a positive impact on everyone who he met. Having this new scholarship in his name is a beautiful way to remember him.
Smurfit Westrock have been a business partner of the TCPID since August 2019. They provide annual funding for the programme, as well as student work placements, graduate internships, student workshops and other supports.
In 2023, Smurfit Westrock offered to fund a scholarship programme for the TCPID. It was proposed to them to name the scholarship programme in memory of Timothy and they were very happy to agree to this. There will be an annual scholarship for one student every year.
