Welcome to the Trinity Centre for Maternity Care Research (TCMCR)

The Trinity Centre for Maternity Care Research is dedicated to achieving excellence in original maternity care research to help drive improvements in pregnancy, childbirth, early parenthood and early childhood care. The Centre prioritises research collaboration with women and families, clinicians in our partner maternity hospitals, national and international colleagues, and industry, to identify and respond to research questions of local, national and global significance to childbearing women.

The aim of the Trinity Centre for Maternity Care Research is to achieve enhanced quality of life and improved outcomes for women, their babies, partners and families through all stages of the reproductive cycle, in diverse social settings. This aim is achieved through research and practice development, research education and research dissemination.

Dr. Déirdre Daly

Prof. Déirdre Daly
Associate Professor, School of Nursing & Midwifery

Déirdre is an Associate Professor in Midwifery in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, TCD. Déirdre is the lead investigator of the Maternal Health and Maternal Morbidity (MAMMI) study, and has led the MAMMI Study team since completing her PhD in 2015. Déirdre holds MA and PhD degrees from Trinity College Dublin, an MSC in Healthcare Ethics and Law from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI), and a MSc in Midwifery from Queen's University Belfast and a PGCE and BSc from the University of Ulster.

Déirdre is a member of national committees on severe maternal morbidity and maternal mortality in Ireland and a member of the All Ireland Midwifery conference planning committee, and was a former member of the Nursing Education Forum ad the Expert Group on Midwifery and Paediatric Nurse Education. Additionally, Déirdre was President of the European Midwives Association (2005-2009) and a member of the European Union Health Policy Forum.
