Welcome
Welcome to this course
This course has been developed to provide valuable knowledge for those in higher education who wish to advance gender equality in their workplace, and to address gender imbalances in academia and research.
It includes methods and strategies for promoting gender equality and aims to give you a solid understanding of how to create an increasingly gender sensitive organisation in your place of work. This course is an output of the SAGE (Systemic Action for Gender Equality) Horizon 2020 project.
Please watch the course overview video before proceeding with the three sessions that constitute this course.
Course Sessions
- Session 1: Change Management for Gender Equality In this session we examine the experiences of the SAGE partner institutions in putting the ‘SAGE Model for Institutional Change’ into action and explore the process of developing and implementing Gender Equality Plans. We also look at how other research institutions can use or adapt the model to identify the actions required to create their own Gender Equality Plan.
- Session 2: Unconscious Bias This session will support you to recognise and acknowledge your own biases so that you can identify them when making decisions, and prevent yourself from making judgements based on a biased viewpoint. It will help you to recognise the negative effects of bias, particularly where it relates to gender, as well as the benefits to be realised by uncovering bias in decision-making processes.
- Session 3: The Gender Dimension in Research The aim of this session is to provide you with an understanding of how and why the 'gender dimension' and/or the 'sex dimension' should be included in your research. The session will guide you through the resources that will help you in addressing the potential sex and/or gender-related aspects of your research activities.
