Dr Robert Legg

Associate Professor, Northern Michigan University, Dr. Phil. (Geography, Trinity College Dublin, 2006), Msc (Environmental Remote Sensing, University of Aberdeen, 1999), BA (Geography, Trinity Western, 1998).

Research interests: patterns of settlement, geographic information systems, spatial analysis, archaeology, cartography.

Dr. Robert Legg is an Associate Professor of Geomatics in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences at Northern Michigan University. Robert has held academic positions in Canada, Ireland and the United States and is currently Associated Staff on the ERC Advanced Grant funded ‘NorFish - North Atlantic Fisheries: An Environmental History, 1400-1700’ project based at the School of Histories and Humanities, Trinity College, Dublin.

Since graduating with an undergraduate major in Geography, Robert continued in the discipline having completed an MSc in Environmental Remote Sensing and a PhD in Historical Geography entitled "An application of spatial and statistical analysis in identifying settlement patterns and Irish ringforts".

Having a background in historical geography and geomatics, Robert's research interests connects with a broad range of disciplines, locations, time-periods and cultures. Typically his research focuses on identifying relationships between people and how they interact with environments through spatial analysis and quantitative methods.
