Johannes Rom Dahl
Johannes Rom Dahl holds a M.A. in History from Aalborg University, Denmark where he, as a part of the research Masters’ programme studied Marine Environmental History with a digital approach. Johannes is undertaking a PhD studentship, researching the decline of the 17th century Northeast Atlantic fisheries as a part of the Life in the Currents (LIC) project. LIC is an interdisciplinary research project exploring past and contemporary life in the Northeast Atlantic and how coastal communities impacted and were impacted by the ocean. Currently Johannes is working with Sophia Chapple on an AI based transcription model that is being trained to read 17th century Scottish port books in order to identify and enumerate marine commodities being exported from Scotland during the second half of the 17th century. He is also in the process of compiling a database with all sorts of anecdotal or descriptive evidence on how the weather and climate affected life by the sea in Early Modern Northern Europe.
Johannes is also affiliated with the 4-Oceans project
