Joana Baco

Research Interests
Joana Baço is a research assistant and archaeologist, with a Master's degree in Archaeology from NOVA University of Lisbon, integrated on CHAM - Centre for the Humanities. She has been involved in several national and international research projects, mainly related to underwater and nautical archaeology, Portuguese expansion and maritime environmental history. Today she is a researcher of the ERC Synergy 4- OCEANS, executive coordinator of the UNESCO Chair “Ocean's Cultural Heritage"; researcher of the Post-Mediaeval and Colonial Archaeology Research Group and of the Thematic Research Line on Environmental History and the Sea. Her main research interests are the Early Modern era, the life on board aspects, the naval construction and the religious imaginary related to the Sea. She dedicates herself to the research and management in several projects and to science dissemination.
