Research Interests
I am a research assistant of CHAM - Centre for the Humanities (FCSH-Nova University and University of the Azores). My PhD in History - variant Archaeology at FCSH, Nova University of Lisboa, focused on a comparative study about the emergency of insular harbours under Portuguese and English control. Centred in Macaronesian Island and English Caribbean this was a multidisciplinary approach between history, archaeology and geomorphology. I have a master in Insular and Atlantic History and a degree in History – variant Archaeology. I have been working as an underwater archaeologist since 1996, 15 of them spent in the Azores dealing with archaeological heritage management. I am currently a team member of the 4-OCEANS project (ERC Synergy Grant2021-2027). In the last few years I have been also developing my interest in environmental history with a multidisciplinary approach, especially on subjects related with the history of whaling in Portugal and the study of harbour debris in the Early Modern age. I am also a team member of the project CONCHA “The construction of early modern global Cities and oceanic networks in the Atlantic: An approach via Ocean’s Cultural Heritage” - Horizon 2020. MSCA-RISE 2017; team member of UNESCO Chair “The Ocean’s Cultural Heritage”, held by NOVA University of Lisbon and team member of the Project COST– Oceans Past Platform (OPP).
