Research Interests
I am a fisheries scientist and a member of the Centre for Marine Sociology in Tasmania. My research examines long-term trends in the use of aquatic resources in Australia through archival sources. I apply statistical modelling to reconstruct ecological trends of commercially and recreationally important fish species, assessing the long-term impacts of fishing on vulnerable populations. Additionally, I am interested in the evolutionary ecology of fish, particularly how fishing influences the population structure of species with complex life histories. I am also a visiting research fellow at the Trinity Centre for Environmental Humanities, where I contribute to the 4Oceans Expert Review and investigate historical ecosystem changes in Tasmania’s kelp forests over the past century.
