Dr Al Matthews
Research Fellow, Trinity Centre for Environmental Humanities, School of Histories and Humanities, Trinity College Dublin.
I am an interdisciplinary researcher within both science and humanities. Of particular interest to me is the application of quantitative methods to research questions in any domain. My Ph.D. studied the price dynamics of marine fish markets in Europe between 1500 and 1800 CE, and the association with conflict and environmental activity (Department of History, Trinity College Dubin, 2021). Previously, I spent over a decade as an analyst in the financial services. Before this, I completed a research master’s degree in mathematics that spanned complex analysis and algebra (Department of Mathematics, Trinity College Dublin, 2005).
