Peter Coxon, Trinity College, Dublin.
Biography
Professor Peter Coxon has very broad interests within Quaternary science and enjoys maintaining an active part in many branches of that discipline including archaeology, palaeobotany, glacial sedimentology/geomorphology and periglacial geomorphology. He took his first (BSc) degree at the University of Sussex in Geography and Biology in the School of Biological Sciences (1973-1976) and went on to do research for a PhD in the Subdepartment of Quaternary Research in Cambridge (1976-1979) under the supervision of Prof. R.G.West FRS. Professor Coxon has been at Trinity since 1979 and has published on a wide-range of topics in Irish geomorphology. His current research interests include environmental archaeology in Ireland and the dating and analysis of Late Tertiary and Quaternary landscape evolution using palynology on palaeosurfaces in western Ireland. He is also actively researching the biostratigraphy and biogeography of Pleistocene temperate stages in Ireland, the geomorphology and biogeography of the Irish Late-glacial (13,000-10,000 years BP) and the geomorphology and landscape evolution of parts of the Indian Himalaya.
