Dr Eilish Burke
Dr. Eilish Burke RGN RNID BNS MSc PhD is the Ussher Assistant Professor in Ageing and Intellectual Disability and the Associate Director of the Centre for Excellence in Ageing and Intellectual Disability.
Her research interest area includes physical health and health promotion, participatory research and inclusion. Her research sits within the Intellectual Disability Supplement to TILDA (IDS-TILDA) and she has completed extensive work specifically in the area of osteoporosis which is an insidious skeletal conditions very often only diagnosed following fracture. IDS-TILDA recognised the inequalities in health status of people with intellectual disability which was one of the factors that influenced the inclusion of health assessments in the second wave of the study.
Eilish completed this element as part of her PhD. Her related research interests include physical health and well-being, inclusionary methods of healthcare screening and healthcare engagement, accessible health promotion and promoting research involvement of people with intellectual disability. She is the Director of the forthcoming interdisciplinary master's course in ageing health and wellbeing in adults with intellectual disability commencing Sept. 2018. Eilish is a committed teacher and has been involved in education and mentoring throughout her career.
