Biography

Eilish is a CORU registered occupational therapist, and currently works as a Practice Tutor with Enable Ireland. Since qualifying as an occupational therapist from Trinity College Dublin, Eilish has worked in a variety of services supporting children and adults with intellectual disabilities across the lifespan. She has worked across school-age teams, and in services supporting young adults with intellectual disabilities to avail of meaningful educational and work opportunities. Eilish has taught a variety of modules on the undergraduate occupational therapy programme since 2021. Eilish is a project team member of the Supported Volunteering: Working Together, Learning Together Project. This project facilitates opportunities for supported volunteering between students and people with experience of homelessness and/or mental health needs. Eilish holds a Masters by Research from Trinity College Dublin, and is currently undertaking a PhD examining sensory processing amongst older adults with intellectual disabilities. Her primary research interest areas pertain to intellectual disability and ageing, transition to adulthood, and inclusive education opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Research Expertise

Description

My current research interests relate to intellectual disability and ageing, transition to adulthood for people with intellectual disabilities, and inclusive education opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. I am also interested in civic engaged teaching and learning, and I am currently involved in the Supported Volunteering: Working Together, Learning Together' project.
