3. Induction and Training
Areas that may need to be covered in PPI induction and training are, depending on who the PPI contributors are, on their experience of the research process, on their track record of working with your team previously:
- The research cycle and what aspect of it they may be working on;
- An introduction to the research project/programme;
- An introduction to the research team;
- Information on processes and procedures, e.g. when meetings will be help, how to claim expenses, who will be in contact with them;
- A context on the area of study.
This initial stage is also a time to find out more about the PPI contributors, to agree a Contract of Engagement with them and to begin to build trust, which are addressed in the coming sections.
The Making a Start toolkit (Trinity College Dublin & Health Research Charities Ireland, 2020) will provide more detail on a co-designed approach to initial induction.
