Practice Teacher
Introductory Practice Teachers' Workshop
This introductory 2.5 day training course (the final part is undertaken during the initial placement) is run jointly with the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice in University College Dublin. It is designed for social workers who plan to begin practice teaching, but also accommodates former practice teachers who want a refresher course and other practitioners who envisage practice teaching. Intending practice teachers are required to attend an introductory workshop before taking their first student.
Practice Teachers must be at least two year qualified and one year in post before they take students on placement. The workshops take place in May and September annually.
Peer Support and Consultation Meetings for Practice Teachers
Peer Support and Consultation Meetings are provided for practice teachers of MSW and BSS Junior and Senior Sophister students. The meetings aim is to connect practice teachers with each other, to promote peer learning, to provide teaching and learning resources and to strengthen the links between the School and its practice teachers.
