Water and Wastewater

Water is a precious global resource - it covers 71% of our planet, but only 1% is available to us as drinking water.

blue water drop iconThe water services industry is the fourth-most energy intensive sector in the EU, which means it produces significant greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. In turn, the increased frequency and severity of droughts and floods resulting from climate change means pressure on this precious resource is increasing.

What have we done?

  • 49.4% reduction in total water use in 2020/21 compared to 2006-08 baseline
  • rainwater harvesting in various buildings

Our Objectives:

  • Increase water capture and reuse
  • Reduce extraction of ground water
  • Increase water use efficiency
  • Increase the number & review location and accessibility of drinking water fountains on campus.
  • Reduce the number of large water bottles (10ltr) being purchased

Our Sustainability Report details the progress that has been made in their implementation.
