What can I do?

Leap Student Travel Card

A Leap card is a reusable plastic smartcard that is used instead of paper tickets to pay for public transport around Dublin. A Leap card offers the flexibility to jump on Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and commuter rail services around Dublin when it suits you without having to buy a specific ticket in advance. The fare for using your Leap card is also 20% cheaper than paying the fare by cash. Find further information on the Leap card and where to get one.

Student discounted Leap cards are available also.

Bicycle Tax Saver Scheme

Consult Human Resources (HR) at hr@tcd.ie or log onto Bike to Work for current general information on purchasing an incentivised new commuting bicycle for almost half the regular price!

Travel pass scheme

The travel pass is a great way to save money on an annual travel pass for Irish Rail (including DART), Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann, Luas and some private bus companies.  College will pay for an annual pass and deduct a discounted amount from your pay cheque monthly (so you avoid a large price up front) and spread the discounted cost over a year without incurring benefit-in-kind tax liability.

An email is sent out by HR to all staff, twice annually commencing on 1st July and 1st November. Staff can sign up for the travel pass during the three weeks following these dates.

Free showers

Free showers are available between 7am and 9am Monday to Friday, at the Sports Centre for College staff who cycle to work. Please email sport@tcd.ie for more information, or call extension 4116 or (01) 8964116.

Blended Working

Blended working (a combination of working in the office and remotely) is available to some staff, to minimise commuting time and reduce the carbon footprint produced from air pollution generated by transport.

Dublin bikes

You can use your staff card, student card, or Leap card to create a Dublin Bikes account.  See here for more information.
