Entitlements for Scholars

As a Scholar of Trinity College, you may receive the following entitlements for the duration of your Scholarship:

• Tuition fees paid, including the Registration Fee ^*Fees
• Commons free of Charge
• College Rooms free of charge (except for deposit and utilities fee)
• Annual salary of €253.95

_{*Undergraduate scholars from non-EU countries shall have their fees reduced by an amount corresponding to the appropriate fee level of an EU fee-paying student.}

Commons

Scholars are entitled to Commons for the duration of their scholarship, details of which can be read through on the commons information page.

Rooms

Scholars are entitled to rooms for up to nine months of the year, typically from early October to June. Arrangements are made to accommodate those students who need to take up rooms early in the year (e.g. dental and medical students), and Scholars remain in rooms until after their last exam in June. Scholars do pay the energy/utilities charges during the year.

Annual Salary and Cash in Lieu of Entitlements

Scholars are granted an annual salary of €253.95. Scholars may also decline the option of rooms and instead accept cash in lieu of rooms, which amounts to €2068.76 (2006 figure), paid in three instalments over the year, 20th December, 20th March and 20th June. €253.95 for cash in lieu of Commons may also be granted, though only in exceptional circumstances.

Intermission of Scholarship

The Scholarship lasts for a maximum of five years, though a Scholar can apply to intermit their tenure for one year by applying to the Senior Lecturer (student.cases@tcd.ie) (or the Dean of Graduate Studies, if engaged in postgraduate study) and outlining their reasons. A maximum of three intermitted years is allowed. Requests for intermission must be submitted by 1st March.

Rules and Regulations

As with all areas of College, the Foundation Scholarships are awarded and administered according to those rules and regulations laid out in the College Statutes and, in more detail, the College Calendar.
