The TCD SCS offer excellent learning opportunities for trainees and volunteers to work with students in an individual, group and online capacity. We require interested parties to have at least 100 hours of counselling/psychotherapy experience before joining our team and to offer at least one full day to the service. We are a busy, brief-therapy service. Our clients are diverse in terms of ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender, and present with a multiplicity of issues. SCS counsellors acquire excellent learning in assessment skills, counselling skills, and multidisciplinary liaison. We strongly encourage our trainees and volunteers to get involved in our many therapeutic and psychoeducational groups. We are also open to new ideas for student and staff workshops.
We are committed to providing a supportive environment for learning and professional growth. Regular one-to-one and group supervision is provided on site. We have a strong belief in inclusivity and welcome individuals from all theoretical orientations. We promote and celebrate diversity among our staff and clients alike.
Trainees and volunteers must be qualified or qualifying for HEA level 9 and above. They must be eligible for, or working towards, ICP (Irish Council of Psychotherapy or PSI (Psychological Society of Ireland) registration.
