The Grattan Scholars

The Grattan Scholars programme was established in 2012 by the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy to support outstanding PhD students and to promote high-quality research and teaching in the social sciences at Trinity.

Named in honour of Emeritus Professor John O’Hagan, the programme recognises his exceptional contribution to the teaching of economics and his long-standing commitment to student development over many years. The scholarships were made possible through the generous support of a group of Economics alumni, in tribute to Professor O’Hagan’s legacy.

The Grattan Scholars programme supports exceptional PhD students who have the potential to become future academic leaders and influential voices for social and economic development. Grattan Scholars are chosen not only for their academic achievements, but also for their commitment to teaching and ambition to understand and improve society through their research and education. Grattan Scholars also play a vital role in delivering high-quality and engaging teaching enriching the learning experience of our undergraduate students.
