Trinity College Dublin Health and Sport week takes place virtually this year from the 22nd – 26th March. The theme for this year’s Health and Sport week is ‘a step in the right direction’ for your health. There are loads of free activities and events planned for staff, students and Trinity Sport members to get involved in - from fitness and meditation classes, a mental health panel discussion, a pop up choir, gardening tips and a walking lecture with Professor Shane O’ Mara. All events and activities planned during TCD Health and Sport week are free!
Health and Sport week kicks off on Monday, 22nd March at 1pm with a ‘walk the talk’ event with Professor Shane O’ Mara who is the author of ‘In Praise of Walking – The new science of walking and why it’s good for us.’ Participants will be encouraged to pop in headphones and nod knowingly as Shane makes the case that we must start walking again whether it’s down to the park, around your local area or up a mountain! Shane will illuminate the joys, health benefits and mechanics of walking and remind us to get out of our chairs and discover a happier, healthier, and more creative self!
Do you want to grow your way to greatness? On Tuesday, 23rd March from 1pm David Hackett from Estates & Facilities will talk to us about what to grow in your garden to give it some of the beauty of the TCD campus. This event is for everyone, whether you are an experienced gardener or a beginner, if you have a balcony, a huge garden, or a tiny plot. Students, staff, alumni, and Trinity Sport members are welcome and there'll be a chance for everyone to share their tips and experiences.
On Wednesday, 24th March from 7pm Charlotte Wingfield, Trinity Sport Recreation Intern will host a panel discussion called ‘Make or Break: The Truth Behind Elite Sport’ where she will chat with international athletes around the issue of mental health in elite sport. The event will be live streamed on TCD SU Facebook page.
Trinity Sport are running free fitness classes throughout the week from a live bootcamp class with Garreth, Yoga with Catriona, HIIT with David, Kettlebells and core with John, Pilates with Jesus to relaxation with Mark to finish off the week! We also have a specially curated Trinity Sport Spotify playlist to keep you motivated throughout Health and Sport week.
