Assessment

To complete the MPhil in Race, Ethnicity, and Conflict, students must pass all required module assessments with a minimum mark of 40%. Once this is achieved, students can proceed to research and write their dissertation. A pass mark in the dissertation is essential for successful completion of the MPhil.

Dissertation Re-submission

In the case that a dissertation does not meet the minimum pass standard, students may have the opportunity to re-submit, following College procedures outlined in the Calendar for Graduate Studies and Higher Degrees. After consulting with the Course Co-ordinator, students who fail the dissertation may be advised or choose to exit the programme with a Postgraduate Diploma in Race, Ethnicity, and Conflict, provided they have met the required standards set out in the Calendar for Graduate Studies and Higher Degrees. Please note that the Postgraduate Diploma is available only as an exit award from the MPhil course.

Assessment Components

Assessment for the MPhil will be based on coursework and the dissertation.

Distinction Criteria

A distinction will be awarded to students who achieve at least 70% in both the dissertation and the overall average mark for the course. Please note that a distinction cannot be awarded if any course credit is failed.

Court of Examiners and Transcript

The Court of Examiners meets in November/December to review grades for coursework, dissertations, and overall performance. After the meeting, students will receive an unofficial transcript from the Sociology Department.
