Katherine Zappone Bio
I am grateful to have been nominated by Trinity College electors, including Professor Linda Hogan, Professor Eve Patten, Dr. Luke O’Neill and Mr. Terry Neill.
It’s been my greatest honour to serve Ireland and its people, as an Independent in the Seanad (2011-2016), in the Dáil (Dublin South West), and as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (2016-2020).
Since my first role teaching at Trinity College Dublin, I have worked to make a difference – from founding An Cosán with my late spouse, Ann Louise Gilligan, to fighting successfully for marriage equality, reproductive healthcare, and parental support for childcare.
I am seeking the opportunity to continue my public work, to ensure that the needs of all our people are represented in our laws, and everyone shares in the prosperity and promise of modern Ireland. If elected, I pledge to serve you, the electors, with integrity, experience and determination.
