The SwEng Showcase and Awards, took place on Tuesday, April 8th, celebrating the culmination of a 12-week module that brought together 309 students, 38 industry projects, and 24 leading companies. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and real-world industry practice.

The Software Engineering Projects Module taught in Year 2 and Year 3 for undergraduate Computer Science courses (ICS & Joint Honours) is unique in offering students the opportunity to collaborate with companies on real-life challenges proposed and mentored by industry professionals. It aims to create industry-ready engineers while also helping companies identify future talent and innovative solutions.

This year’s showcase saw 11 standout teams compete for four top industry awards. The winners were:

  • 1st Place - Group 12, who worked with Microsoft on the Key Wizard Project, presented by Ross Mayne of Munich RE.
  • 2nd Place - Group 31, also partnered with Microsoft, received the award for their work on the Passkeys Project, presented by Panpan Lin of IBM.
  • Sustainability Award (new this year)- Group 26, recognised for their project with Workday, demonstrating a strong focus on green computing.
  • Public Choice Award - Group 28, who collaborated with Amazon, won the votes of the audience. The award was presented by Ciara Ennis of Microsoft.

The SwEng programme continues to grow as a powerful platform for university-industry collaboration, fostering meaningful connections and innovation that benefit students, companies, and society alike.

A special note of thanks to our panel of judges: Ross Mayne, Brenda Mannion, Panpan Lin, Pratik Mondkar, Amanda Keane and Hugh Reynolds.
