CodePlus, a transformative Computer Science engagement initiative, has been awarded the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year at the Women in STEM Summit & Awards. This award recognises the project’s dedication to reducing the gender gap in technology by providing young women with hands-on experiences in Computer Science, empowering them to make informed choices about their educational and career paths.

School of Computer Science and Statistics Professor Brendan Tangney has played a significant role in its development and success. Launched in 2015 at Trinity College Dublin, CodePlus has positively impacted countless young people and expanded its reach nationally in 2020, thanks to support from SFI Discover and industry funding. The project has established partnerships with Lero, the SFI Centre for Software at the University of Limerick, and the School of Education at the University of Galway, further promoting inclusivity and diversity across Ireland's tech landscape.

In recognition of his efforts, Professor Tangney was also shortlisted in the Male Champion of Change category, underscoring his commitment to advancing gender diversity in STEM. This dual recognition showcases the significant impact of both CodePlus and its advocates in creating a more inclusive future for the tech industry.
