Course Structure - MSc in Interactive Digital Media
The programme presents courses in Interactive Narrative, Graphic Design, Audio and Video Technologies in combination with Introduction to Computer Science and Client and Server Programming Technologies and Platforms. This M.Sc. is different in that it focuses on teaching theory rather than on applications. Students are exposed to programming languages and platforms as well as methodologies for the creation, capture and presentation of text, graphics, audio and moving images.
Basic computer science courses are offered for students with no formal background in programming and students with experience in programming are taught specialized programming methodologies for interactive digital platforms.
The range of backgrounds and skills of the students each year facilitates exchange and collaboration between different disciplines. Students work together collaboratively on individual course assignments and on their final projects.
The course runs full-time over a twelve-month period commencing late September and completing early September of the following year. Formal teaching is divided into two twelve-week semesters, running from Sept to Dec and from Jan to April. Research proposals are submitted in November and agreed by mid December with students then commencing their research project which must be submitted in the form of a research paper of 12,000 words in May. After the research paper and coursework is assessed at the Exam Board in May, the students then go on to complete a final project which is a collaborative project with other class members.
