Dr. Julian Bacharach

Biography

I completed my PhD at UCL in 2019, under the supervision of M. G. F. Martin and Rory Madden.

I studied Music for my BA and took a Masters in Musicology before transitioning to philosophy. Prior to joining Trinity, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Philosophical Psychological at the University of Antwerp with Bence Nanay; before that, I was a visiting researcher at the Humboldt University in Berlin, hosted by Tobias Rosefeldt.

Research Expertise

Description

My research interests are at the intersection of philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and philosophy of psychology. I am interested especially in questions about our understanding and experience of time, and about the nature and role of memory. I am also interested our understanding of causation, especially mental causation and causation in the social world. I aim to pursue this research in an open-minded and empirically informed way, incorporating insights and problems from cognitive science, developmental psychology, and the social sciences. I also have historical interests in early modern philosophy, Kant, and 20th century analytic philosophy.
