The Qur’an, Hebrew, and the Bible: Genesis in the Qur’an

Dr Zohar Hadromi-Allouche gave a lecture recently on “The Qur’an, Hebrew, and the Bible: Genesis in the Qur’an,” as part of the University of Strasbourg “Bible(s) and Qur’an. Academy approaches” lecture series. In this lecture, she presented her innovative research on Hebrew vocabulary in the Qur’an.

Dr Hadromi-Allouche demonstrated that qur’anic retellings of biblical stories echo the consonance of the Hebrew text of the Hebrew Bible.

Dr Hadromi-Allouche findings indicate that (at least parts of) the Qur’an were familiar with (at least parts of) the Hebrew Bible, in Hebrew, as well as its Jewish exegetical tradition. This in turn implies that the prevalent scholarly assumptions concerning the religious milieu where the Qur’an has emerged need be reconsidered.
