Flyer for Peace on the Korean Peninsula Seminar 2024The event, held in the JM Synge Theatre on Wednesday 4th December 2024, was entitled ‘Peace on the Korean Peninsula: Reflections from the Northern Ireland Peace Process’. Attendees were welcomed by Ambassador Yong-kil Kim, after which Prof Alexander Dukalskis (UCD) spoke on the current security situation in Korea.

Then David Mitchell discussed the similarities and differences in the conflicts and peace efforts in Ireland and Korea, drawing on insights from his book, Reconciling Divided States: Peace Processes in Ireland and Korea (Routledge, 2022) co-edited with Dong Jin Kim. In particular he suggested that Ireland can be a source of inspiration, peacemaking learning, and ongoing solidarity between peacebuilders, despite dramatically different circumstances.
