Scholarship Opportunities
The Irish School of Ecumenics Trust will make the following scholarships available:
- International Peace Studies M.Phil. (IPS) - €2,000 (1 scholarship)
- Contextual Theologies and Interfaith Relations M.Phil. (CTIR) - €2,000 (1 scholarship)
- Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation M.Phil. (CRR) - €2,000 (1 scholarship)
- Ph.D./M.Litt., for research in the fields of Peace and Conflict Studies or Contextual Theologies and Interfaith Relations - €3000 (1 scholarship). For further details please contact srpostgrad@tcd.ie.
The closing date for all ISE scholarships is 25 July 2023. Other deadlines may vary, please check carefully before applying. All full-time applicants with an unconditional offer will be considered and the decisions will be made on academic merit. Students should note that these scholarships only cover part of the total costs for fees and living expenses and applicants are therefore encouraged to explore additional sources of funding. There is no application form for ISE scholarships. All incoming students who have accepted a firm offer by 25th July 2023 will be considered.
Trinity College Dublin will make one doctoral research award available to a new full-time entrant to the structured PhD programme / research doctorate at the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies starting in 2025-26 (September or March). The award attracts an associated stipend of €25,000 p.a. and covers tuition fees for the four years (full-time).
The following criteria apply:
- Open only to new entrants to the full-time research doctorate register (EU and nonEU).
- The holders must engage in full-time research and must register for a research doctorate degree at Trinity College, the University of Dublin.
- Continuation on the research register is dependent on evidence of satisfactory annual progress and successful completion of the confirmation process at 18 months after first registration.
- Both the doctorate researcher and supervisor will agree to participate in the pilot rollout of Trinity’s Supervisor: Research Student Agreement in 2025-26.
- Postgraduate Research Doctorate Awards cannot continue beyond a fourth year on the full-time research doctorate register and cannot be split across doctorate researchers.
Application
All new PhD students who have submitted an application for 2025-26 will be automatically considered to be in competition for the award and will receive a scholarship application form to be submitted by 19th May 2025. (Please note, to be considered, March applicants will need to have submitted their application by the previous May). Contact the Postgraduate Officer at srpostgrad@tcd.ie for further information.
The Constantia Maxwell Scholarship, worth €3,000, will be awarded to one postgraduate taught master’s student at the School of Religion, Theology and Peace Studies.
In order to be eligible to apply, applicants must have completed their applications on the portal, including all relevant supporting documentation, by 18th July 2025.
The Constantia Maxwell Scholarship is evaluated on the proven academic merit of the candidate and/or their relevant life/work experience and potential within the relevant field and/or a related discipline. Other circumstantial factors may be taken into account at the discretion of the School Postgraduate Committee.
Applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria and wish to be considered for this funding must submit a personal statement, no later than 18th July 2025. The statement should include:
- Your full name and TCD application number
- A brief list of your main educational qualifications, awarding institutions, and final grade/standing in each qualification
- A personal statement outlining the reasons why you believe you are deserving of the Constantia Maxwell Scholarship
The personal statement should not exceed 750 words in total Please submit in Microsoft Word format, as a separate attachment in an email to SRAdmBlfst@tcd.ie / srpostgrad@tcd.ie, using the subject title “Constantia Maxwell Scholarship” in the subject line.
Applications which do not adhere to the required format outlined above will not be considered.

This Scholarship offers Chinese students who wish to pursue a Ph.D. a full fee-waiver from Trinity, and a stipend for living costs, airfare and health insurance, provided by the CSC.
To be eligible for the scheme, students should have received an unconditional offer letter for their Ph.D. position at Trinity College Dublin (students must have met the English language requirement prior to application). External Sources of Funding
The Government of Ireland Scholarships are awarded to high calibre students from non-EEA countries to study in Ireland. They provide an individual stipend of €10,000 and full fee waiver to 60 beneficiaries for a period of one full year of study. Further details on the programme and links to the application portal for interested students can be found here.
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme offers scholarships for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a Ph.D. (either traditional or structured) in any discipline at an eligible HEI within Ireland. Details of the scholarship and application process can be accessed on the Irish Research Council website.
There is a limited number of Government of Ireland scholarships available for Chinese and Brazilian citizens to study in Trinity. Please see Trinity Global Relations Office for further details or you can contact the following personnel:

Universities Ireland offers a limited number of scholarships to students who have been accepted to undertake a recognised Master's Degree or are entering the first year of a Ph.D. programme at a university in the island of Ireland that is not in the same jurisdiction as the university where they have previously studied.
