The names of the new Fellows and Scholars are announced on the steps of the Public Theatre.

The weather was not on our side for this year's Trinity Monday announcement of the names of the new Fellows and Scholars. The rain failed to dampen spirits though as shouts of joy rang out amidst a forest of umbrellas in Front Square for the annual event in the College calendar.

Trinity Monday is always an exciting occasion, and it was clear from the hugs and happy tears in Front Square that this year was no different.

Afterwards, the annual Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving took place in the College chapel with the sermon preached by Rev. Professor Michaeal Mullaney, President of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. The Chapel Choir was magnificent as always – see a clip of them singing right before entering the Chapel.

Following the service, the Graduates Memorial Building hosted the annual Trinity Monday Memorial Discourse. This year, Fellow Emeritus, John Parnell, gave a very interesting discourse on A.F.G. Kerr (1877-1942), Irish physician and botanist, known for his landmark work in Thailand.

Celebrations continued back in the Public Theatre as the new Fellows and Scholars gathered for a short party to mark the day before heading home to get ready for the annual Scholar’s Dinner.

The following day, the new Fellows and Scholars joined Linda in the Saloon to read their respective declarations, thus being officially instated as Fellows and Scholars.
