In celebration of Ireland’s 50-year membership of the EU, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, visited Trinity and received the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage from the TCD Philosophical Society (The Phil) at an event held in a packed Public Theatre.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, a Trinity alum, accompanied President Metsola who was also greeted by former president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox – another Trinity grad.
During their visit, President Metsola and An Taoiseach met with young people involved in the ‘MYEU50’ competition which commemorates Ireland’s 50 years in the EU by encouraging Irish young people to showcase ‘their creativity and new ideas about Ireland and Europe.’*
