College Librarian, Helen Shenton; Provost, Linda Doyle; and Curator of University Art Collections, Catherine Giltrap, looking at newly launched sculpture of Mary Wollstonecraft in the Long Room.
On St Brigid’s Day, Linda joined guests in the Old Library to celebrate the launch of the first female sculptures to reside in the Long Room.
The sculptures honour the scholarship of four incredible women:
- Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797), pioneering women’s rights advocate – by Rowan Gillespie
- Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), mathematician – by Maudie Brady
- Augusta Gregory (1852-1932), folklorist, dramatist and theatre-founder – by Guy Reid
- Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958), scientist – by Vera Klute
