Minister James Lawless made his first visit to Trinity since his appointment to the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. 

The Provost met with the Minister and had a good conversation about the external environment in which universities are operating, supports for our students, Funding the Future, research, and research infrastructure.

The Minister, who holds a maths degree and a Master’s in High Performance Computing from Trinity, also met current students from the School of Mathematics along with Head of School and former classmate of the Minister, Prof. Tristan McLoughlin. Trinity’s Dean of Research, Prof. Sinéad Ryan, was also in attendance.

Before departing, the Minister made a quick trip to House 9 where he lived as a student and stopped for a chat with Trinity students Tom and Alan, who are also members of the Hist, the world’s oldest student debating society!
